PEACOCK ESCAPES CENTRAL PARK ZOO, HANGS OUT ON BUILDING LEDGE

Somehow, a peacock escaped the Central Park Zoo this afternoon and made it to the fourth story of a building on 5th Avenue and 65th Street, where it preened for onlookers. Things predictably started to get silly down on the street below.

Then it threatened to jump unless the zoo agreed to extend hours for the bird bath. No, no, that was a joke.

The zoo is aware of the escape and is telling everyone to relax and not stalk or harass the bird, DNAinfo says.

“We are hopeful he will either fly back to the zoo or we will retrieve him nearby,” a spokesman told the Post.

A Village Voice reporter went into some more detail: “There was also a homeless man trying to lure it down by playing a flute and a small crowd. Neither were very well received by the cops. The peacock was just outside someone’s window; the cops were negotiating with the apartment building and trying to figure out how to trap it.”

Aren’t their gates on these zoos? What kind of security are we dealing with here?
