One Man Dead After Two Shootings That Occurred Hours Apart

Two shootings were reported in the 24th precinct — one on Friday evening and the other early Saturday morning. A 48-year-old man was killed in the second incident. Police say there’s no reason to believe at this point that the shootings are connected.

The first shooting occurred around 6:40 p.m. on Friday night in front of 19 West 103rd Street, according to NYPD. A man was walking Eastbound on the block when he suddenly “heard several shots and felt a graze to his right ear,” according to the NYPD spokesman. He ran into Central Park and was picked up by an ambulance and taken to St. Luke’s Hospital with a laceration and bleeding to his right ear. “It’s unclear at this time where he was the intended target,” said the spokesman. There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

In the second incident, police were called to 109th Street and Columbus Avenue at 12:48 a.m. on Saturday and found a 48-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his torso. He was taken to St. Luke’s, where he was pronounced dead. It’s not yet clear what precipitated the shooting. The assailant is described as black man wearing a beige bubble jacket. The deceased man has not been identified, pending notification of his family.

It’s the second homicide this year in the 24th precinct.
