THE PUMPKINS THAT SAVED THE UPPER WEST SIDE

pumpkin-story3

Pumpkins come and pumpkins go, and some pumpkins become pies. But other pumpkins get to be part of the larger story of community and love and America.

Like these pumpkins on West 70th Street.

Hank and Lesley (the names of the humans, not the pumpkins) put two pumpkins on their stoop. They told us what happened next.

“We had put two pumpkins on our stoop: a big pumpkin and a little one. After a week the little one went missing. Hank put up a “missing pumpkin” sign describing the small pumpkin and asking for info about its whereabouts. The next day, two new little pumpkins showed up.”

Touched, they put up a sign.

So, whodunit?

“It turns out, our neighbor’s daughter gave us the two pumpkins, and she sent us a nice note about wanting us to enjoy our first Halloween in the neighborhood. 🙂 Her name is Betsy.”

We reached out to Betsy, but she didn’t reply. She’ll let the pumpkins do the talking.
