IS FURNITURE A PRODUCT? OR COULD IT BE AN AFFORDABLE SERVICE INSTEAD? (SPONSORED)

Living in New York City isn’t cheap. Once you add up rent, your commuting costs and the price of groceries, clothes and a little mad money to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Apple, there’s not much left over.

But — ahem — aren’t you forgetting something?

What about furniture?

Unless you plan to use an air mattress for your bed and couch, you’re going to need to get at least a few items for your new place. After all, no one moves to New York to live on the floor. You want to be comfortable and happy as you enjoy all that the city has to offer.

Furniture: Product or Service?

Chances are good that you answered this question as “Product. Duh.” And it’s definitely true that most people still think of furniture as something you save up a lot of money to buy once. Then you keep it for years until it wears out, in the meantime dragging it with you to each new apartment — even when it no longer suits your tastes or needs. Surely you’ve seen people hang on to outdated furniture for years, just because it’s part of “their stuff.”

Luckily, there’s a better way.

Furnishare is out to change the way New Yorkers think of furniture. Instead of selling you on a “forever” piece of furniture, they provide dining chairs and bedroom sets as a service. You choose a group of three items you love, pick a subscription period, and Furnishare brings your items to your door for an affordable price. You use the furniture for as long as you like — you’re free to trade it in for something different or renew your subscription for another three, six or twelve months. Best of all, Furnishare takes care of all the heavy lifting.

That’s furniture as a service. It’s the wave of the future.

Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
