BODY SHOP CLOSING AFTER DECADES ON 76TH; EVERYTHING 30% OFF

    July 23, 2012 | 4:54 PM
    in NEWS, OPEN/CLOSED
    8

The Body Shop on the corner of 76th Street and Broadway is closing on Saturday after being open for decades.

It’s not clear why the shop is shutting its doors — an employee there didn’t know the details when we called. According to one of our tipsters, Jeff, the store has been around since the mid-1980’s. The closing comes right after Betsey Johnson on 71st and Columbus shut its doors for good on Sunday.

Thanks to Jeff and Ken for the tips, and to Ken for the photo.

Yes, it’s been there for decades, but in retail everything has it’s time and place. I pass it almost daily and have not gone in since my daughters got past age 13 (they are now about to turn 40!). The sticky sweet smells and artificiality of it are over and done with. They had a good run, but I have no sadness they they are closing.

Supercuts across Museum of Natural History is also closing after 20 years in the neighborhood. The employees will be either be in the 105th and Broadway branch, or 85th/2nd Ave. The landlord did not renew the lease.

I walked in there tonight for a haircut and felt their disenchantment. All hair products are 50% off until tomorrow. No more haircut services tomorrow.

Well, look on the bright side: At least we’ll have another bank or Duane Reade in the neighborhood!

These are all just chain stores. No big deal.

I’m sorry to see this store close. I’m sure it has to do with the rent. The folks here are really helpful and the discounts are absolutely phenomenal.

A candy store in its place? Please!!

I think they wanted to expand and be a bigger store, but our savior Gale Brewer put a stop to that and they had to close.
