Take a Guided Walk in Central Park: Saturday and Sunday – times and ticket links below

Join the Central Park Conservancy’s staff experts on a tour through the park to learn more about its gardens, natural areas, and wildlife. The Conservancy offers a two-hour Birding Basics Tour this Saturday at 10 a.m., and a 75-minute Conservatory Garden Tour on Saturday at 11 a.m. There’s also a 90-minute Summer Pollinator Walk on Sunday. Summer’s not over yet! 

Celebrate Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish new year starts this weekend. Observant UWS Jews will attend synagogue, while others will mark the holiday by eating apples and honey (wishing for a “sweet” new year), enjoying a festive meal with family and friends, or throwing bread into the Hudson in honor of taschlicht, symbolically casting last year’s sins into the river. 

The UWS has plenty of synagogues and plenty of holiday food options, from Kosher Marketplace for those who observe kashrut (closed on holidays), to farmers markets where you can get both apples and honey. Silver Moon offers special challahs, honey cakes, and more. Breads Bakery has centerpiece and everyday challahs, date cookies, apple galette, and Safta cake among other treats. Miriam, on Amsterdam Ave. near West 74th Street offers holiday catering, including its package for four with dips, sides, entrees, and desserts. Home cooks can shop at Zabar’s, Citarella, and Fairway.

Get Ready for the 64th New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center

Presale tickets for dozens of new and important cinematic works from around the world will be available starting Tuesday, Sept. 15th at noon. They’ll be shown right here on the UWS, so why not take this weekend to review the lineup and make plans to attend a few screenings? The festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 25th with James Gray’s New York thriller “Paper Tiger” (starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller and Scarlett Johansson) on opening night.
