Naledi Physical Therapy Brings a Holistic, Personalized Approach to Care on the Upper West Side

For many people, physical therapy can feel impersonal: crowded clinics, rushed appointments, and formulaic treatment plans. Naledi Physical Therapy, an independent practice that opened on the Upper West Side last year, offers something different.

Founded by physical therapist Divya Rajaraman, Naledi Physical Therapy provides one-on-one care that looks beyond a single injury or diagnosis to understand how the whole body works together. “Considering the bigger picture is essential,” explained Rajaraman, “Someone might come in with knee pain, but the shoes they are wearing or their breathing patterns could also be part of the puzzle.”

Rajaraman’s path to physical therapy informs how she operates her practice. Before becoming a PT, she spent 15 years working in public health research and program management. Along the way, she also trained as a yoga instructor, which sparked her interest in movement, anatomy, and clinical care. After completing her doctorate in physical therapy at Hunter College, she gained experience in hospital and outpatient settings before opening her own neighborhood practice.

The team at Naledi includes Hesoo Byun, who incorporates a Pilates-based approach to rehabilitation, and Sue Eby, who brings more than 20 years of experience specializing in foot and ankle conditions.

The practice treats a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain and injury, gait and balance disorders, osteoporosis-related concerns, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, and general conditioning. Treatment may include manual therapy and traditional physical therapy exercises, along with breathwork, Pilates- and yoga-based movement, functional strengthening, and balance training. One-on-one appointments are integral to Naledi’s model. “This allows us to tailor every session to where a patient is at on a given day,” noted Rajaraman.

Opening Naledi on West 87th Street and Riverside Drive felt like a natural choice for Rajaraman. She lives nearby in Morningside Heights and previously worked at an independent practice on the Upper West Side, where she appreciated the close-knit atmosphere and community feel of an owner-operated practice.

Rajaraman also has strong ties within the neighborhood health and wellness community. She regularly coordinates with other local providers when patients may benefit from additional support.
