For the third consecutive year, Upper West Side residents and visitors will have the opportunity to experience the sublime music of Johann Sebastian Bach right in the neighborhood. At the Bach Virtuosi Festival (May 12-19), you’ll hear some of the world’s finest musicians and interpreters of Bach’s music perform many of his most beloved works.

Tickets are on sale now!

The festival opens on Tuesday, May 12 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church with performances of Bach’s Concerto for Three Violins in D Major, Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor, and A Mighty Fortress Is Our God. Next, Bach enthusiasts will have the rare opportunity to hear esteemed harpsichordist Arthur Haas perform The Goldberg Variations, one of the greatest keyboard works ever written, on Friday, May 15 at the intimate Good Shepherd-Faith Presbyterian Church. One of the most sought-after performers and teachers of Baroque music in the United States today, Haas is the recipient of Early Music America’s 2023 prestigious Howard Mayer Brown Award for Lifetime Achievement. His concert appearances include seven performances of The Goldberg Variations throughout the U.S. since 2021.

The festival closes on Tuesday, May 19 at St. Ignatius with a special treat: a performance of Bach’s “Coffee Cantata” (Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht) staged by award-winning director Annette Jolles. Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major is another closing night highlight.

“J.S. Bach is a foundational figure in music, as vibrant today as he was over the past three centuries. Hearing this sublime music in intimate surroundings within our New York communities has been a dream fulfilled,” says renowned BVF founder and conductor Lewis Kaplan, an expert interpreter of Bach’s music who teaches at The Juilliard School and previously directed the Bowdoin International Music Festival for 50 years. “With sold-out concerts and incredible support from the community, we have all created something special in New York.”

All three concerts start at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $50, free for students (with student ID).
