The lights and air conditioning blinked back on across the Upper West Side Saturday night after more than three hours of darkness following

City officials closed all traffic below 71st Street around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday as darkness engulfed the area because of a blackout.

Much of the Upper West Side lost electricity on Saturday evening around 7 p.m., and subways were shut down in the area.

The PBS show Blackout, reliving the 1977 blackout and its aftermath, airs on Tuesday night. And it turns out West Side Rag inadvertently played a role in the production.
