Some young people posted the poem above to a fence at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument at 89th Street just inside Riverside Park.
It’s a little sad — no spring this year! — but also quite hopeful. How awesome. Thank you to SR RR MR and DR, whoever you are. We’ll see you out there next spring.
Oh boy. This got to me. Someone please rescue this sign and give it to the New York Historical Society or the Museum of the City of New York to be preserved.
speaking of kids on the UWS: this is an outstanding video (link below) of a homeless family in an UWS shelter with a brilliant 10 year old girl. Too many of us promote a caricature of the homeless. before you complain again about the homeless housing and supportive housing on the UWS, take a moment to reflect on who the homeless actually are, and maybe watch this video over again. 10% of students in NYC public schools are homeless. Many full time workers at low wage jobs are in shelters or supportive housing.

Thank you, Bruce, for reminding us…

Children: Your beautiful poem touches me. Spring is so
different this year but it is still out there. You and your family can still enjoy the trees, flowers, birds, sunshine and even the rain. Let nature in and say, “Hello and Thank you”.
