News:
Panic erupted at the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday after a popping bottle caused people to flee for the exits, presumably thinking there was an attack underway. “The event nearly turned into a catastrophe when attendees, thinking that gunshots were fired at 7:35 p.m., stampeded away from the stage. Initially, reports indicated a security barrier had toppled, while a producer of the show had it as a fallen bike rack. Sunday afternoon, though, Global Citizen issued a statement blaming the unnerving boom on… a beverage container. ‘While NYPD originally advised that a fallen security barrier caused the noise, NYPD informed us today that it was the sound of an attendee(s) stepping on and popping a drink bottle(s),’ said the statement, attributed to Hugh Evans, the founder of Global Citizen.” The video below gives a sense of the scene:

An Upper West Side man is accused of killing a man in Harlem just days after entering an alternatives to incarceration program. “The gun-toting Upper West Side man dodged a jail term for carrying a loaded gun in a livery cab through a June 5 plea deal personally approved by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. — over protests from senior prosecutors, sources said. And then, in the early morning hours of June 13, the 22-year-old Summers chased down Terrence Neil over an unspecified beef and casually blasted him from behind as the man ran for his life, authorities said. The bleeding 29-year-old victim collapsed in the arms of horrified family members and died while Summers fled the scene.”
Mike Drucker, a comedy writer from the UWS, spends a lot of time wandering the halls of the Museum of Natural History checking out the dinosaurs. “I may wander around for an hour or even all day, but I always stop to see them even though they don’t say much.”
What exactly is a delivery cart?
“Alternatives to Incarceration??” Assuming this is not a bad joke, it sounds like a great deal for those who should be incarcerated. For the rest of us? Not so great.
Dayshawn Summers seems like a very nice, misunderstood “Upper West Side man”.
Any news on the timing/opening of the West 72nd B/C subway station?
Thought it was to be sometime this week.
