Temperatures are expected to hit the upper-90’s this weekend and people need to keep themselves cool and hydrated. The city has tips and a list of “cooling centers” where you can go to soak in that air conditioning at its Beat the Heat website. See below for some of the options, via Council Member Helen Rosenthal and Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal.

What about Sunday, when these places are CLOSED?
There is always Starbucks! Many have become de facto senior centers for several reasons including all that free AC.
The libraries are only open approx 10am-5 PM and closed otherwise including Sunday and thiscweek on Wed 4Juky for the holiday, so only “cooling centers” on a very limited basis. Very sad that the libraries do not have longer hours in general and also as cooling center rrprieves!
I vote for Harlem Fairway’s refrigerated room. I just hang out for a while, staring at meat and craft beer.
Photo reminds me of the late Helen Levitt. Very much her style.
Mid-Manhattan, N.Y.P.L. may be open on Sundays;[or, 1st Day in Plain Speech]. Remember the news article @ how hot some of the jail in Ricker’s Island, was ?&, probably , still is. What A/C company, made in U.S.A. , ? Is there still a special program for A/C – for Senior Citizens &, for some disabled/handicapped citizens ? I don’t put a Bowl of ice cubesin front of a fan.
