The Eleanor Roosevelt statue at 72nd Street and Riverside was surrounded by flowers on Thursday, which was International Women’s Day, as part of a project put on by Old Navy to “honor the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of these and all women around the world.”

A relative met E.R. during WW2. That relative sorta dragged me to the U.N. , where E.R. was in a certain room. Also, excursions to : Oyster Bay .[“Teddy” R.s house]; to see the movie, “Sunrise at Campobello”; to the upstate House of F.D.R…..BUT we didn’t attend “Arsenic & Old Lace” play/&,, or the movie. Nor put a Wreath on T.R.’s statue in front of the NH Museum. P.S. :When lilacs last….”
So deserving. She said that she would rather light a candle than curse the darkness. Lovely pictures
Adlai Stevenson said that in his ER eulogy

Re: “She was a remarkable women” 😳
Ms. Roosevelt WAS a wonderful First Lady and an amazing person, doing so many things that it may have seemed to some that there were several of her.
But, no, there was only one E. R., and so she was “a remarkable womAn…not, well… you know.
Thanks to Old Navy for their tribute to this amazing woman. I was in my car, saw it and took a picture of this lovely site. Well done, Old Navy, for your tribute to a woman who was ahead of her time & who believed in equality for all people.
So important that she is remembered for generations to come. She devoted her life to doing good. What more is there to say? Thank you, Old Navy!!
Beautiful! But if it weren’t for the WSR I never would have known…
So lovely,and so well deserved!
Beautiful tribute to such a great lady!! My daughter’s Girl Scout troop had the honor of being present during the ceremony when ER’s statue was unveiled.
Happy to hear that another deserving lady, Harriet Tubman,
also was honored with flowers surrounding her statue on 125th St.
Congratulations Old Navy!
This display warms my heart. Thank you Old Navy and all involved!
One of my favorite Eleanor quotes:
“It isn’t enough to talk about peace.
One must believe in it. And it isn’t
enough to believe in it-one must work at it.”
