The neon is back on at e’s Bar and the bar will reopen soon. Photo via e’s Bar.
e’s Bar on Amsterdam Avenue between 84th and 85th Street, which sustained major water damage in a February fire, is set to reopen on May 24. And they’ll be holding a fundraiser for the dozens of displaced tenants from the building above on opening night.
Owners Erin Bellard and Ethan Hunt launched an online fundraising campaign shortly after the fire to help tenants and raised more than $12,000. They say that only two of the tenants had renters’ insurance. We profiled one of the families that was displaced here.
e’s Bar employees took heroic action after the fire to try to save residents. Seven people sustained minor injuries in the four-alarm blaze.
On Wednesday, May 24, starting at 5 p.m., e’s will hold another fundraiser and grand reopening. Jacob’s Pickles, which expects to reopen this summer, also held a fundraiser last month.

It’ll be fantastic to have e’s back in the neighborhood. We’ve missed you guys!
E’s is the best, most community minded establishment. Love them!
They are starting a monthly charity cocktail. Clever.
I’m all for helping those in need, but I’m not sure why it’s noted that ‘only 2 tenants had renters’ insurance’. If the point is that even those with insurance are in financial distress then sure, raise money and give it to all the tenants equally. But if the point is that the people without insurance are the ones who need money, I feel less inclined to donate. This is exactly why tenants need renters’ insurance.
