For the second time this week, police are issuing a request for help finding a 15-year-old girl who went missing. Stephanie Gonzalez was last seen at 60 Amsterdam Avenue (62nd Street) on Jan. 27.
It was reported to the police that the missing was last seen at 0800 hours on January 27, 2017 leaving her residence. The missing is 5’1″, 110lbs., light complexion, black hair, brown eyes, last seen wearing a dark green coat, blue jeans, and black shoes.
Anyone with information in regards to this missing is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or for Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782)
The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or texting their tips to 274637(CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
Not too far from the other girl–wasn’t she around 65th and Amsterdam?
This is terrifying. These are not the first young girls to go missing in the city. There were a spate of them last year in the Bronx (link here: https://nymag.com/thecut/2016/06/14-teen-girls-missing-in-possible-bronx-sex-ring.html?mid=fb-share-thecut)
The concern is that they are being abducted for sex trafficking. Truly horrible
We need more police parole get the streets. I never see
any police in the area.
We need more police patrolling the area on foot. I never see any police patrolling the Lincoln Center area either on Broadway or Amsterdam. Amsterdam Houses are
right in this area.
I don’t think these girls are getting snatched on the stoops of their homes. Foot patrols are fine but will probably not prevent these sort of crimes from happening.
Here’s hoping for their quick and safe return to their families.
It is truly terrifying.
Is there any news of the other child?
She returned home yesterday.
Thank goodness.
Don’t worry. As soon as it happens to a white girl the authorities will be all over it.
Can this possibly be the same Stephanie Gonzalez (same name/same street/same photo) who previously went missing twice last year? Both times she was with her friends.
Young lady went missing on 27 January and NYPD is just getting around to asking for “help” almost two weeks later?
Hope and pray both young ladies are found and safe. Also however it must be said that in no small number of these disappearances young girls went off to meet someone they met online.
Years ago we were all taught not to speak/talk to strangers, never get into a motor vehicle with same and so forth. It was also easier for a parent to police what their kids were doing. Technology has changed everything.
Nearly all teens and even pre-teens have smart phones or other electronic devices that allow them to get online. Many also have Facebook and other online presences which can be scanned by those looking to cause harm.
The police didn’t wait 2 weeks to report this: “Gonzalez, who was reported missing last Friday, is about 5-foot-1 with black hair and brown eyes, officials said. It’s unclear why it took so long for police to be told about her disappearance.”
As I mentioned in a previous post this may be the same Stephanie Gonzalez who went ‘missing’ twice last year, and both times she was with friends.
I wish they could tell us if they are suspected runaways or abductions. It would make a huge difference to public safety. And I agree with Lea – I never see cops in the area.
You rarely see NYPD walking street/beat patrols anymore. Outside of some high crime (or recent event), best can hope for is car patrols. Even have given up counting how many NYPD have their eyeballs glued to the phone screens.
That being said there are cameras everywhere now, which to an extent do provide some security. I mean they caught that guy who stole a bucket full of gold in Mid-town.
Agree with other poster; don’t think this or other recent incidents are results of girls being snatched off streets. Rather either runaways or went to meet someone they knew or thought such as an “online” person.
Hopefully this isn’t the case, but I would like to get this out. I did a show on Human Trafficking and feel (esp this age group) needs to watch. It is on Youtube.com/thewomansconection
She was missing at least once before, in July 2016. The picture is definitely her.

There was another girl with the same name missing, not sure what happened to her.
To my fellow UWSers—you do not see cops around because they are affraid to do their job thanks to a cop hating mayor and other top city officials.Take it from someone who knows.I’ve been there.
This is a pathetic response.
Seriously, the police are supposed to be watching these kids?
This topic is so frustrating. It has nothing to do with the police, and once again the police weren’t notified until this girl was missing for 2 weeks.
As others have pointed out, it isn’t the first time SG and other girls in the neighborhood have gone missing. They’re not being lured away by predators with their cell phones on social media. They’re using these phones to travel around and hook up with their friends.
Parents/guardians need to call these kids on the cell phones that THEY PAY FOR and either go pick them up or tell them to get their a**** home. The police aren’t their babysitters!
