Mamma’s Famous Pizza and Burgers on Broadway between 85th and 86th Streets was closed by the health department because an inspector found a variety of critters hanging around that shouldn’t have been there.
Mamma’s has had run-ins with the DOH before. In June, the restaurant netted a whopping violation score of 87, but escaped further action because it scored a 10 the next week (27 and above gives you a C, and often puts a restaurant in danger of getting shut down).
On November 14, Mamma’s scored a 50 and was shut down. Here’s what the inspector found:
Sanitary Violations
1) Hot food item not held at or above 140ยบ F.
2) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
3) Live animals other than fish in tank or service animal present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
4) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.
5) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
