Each summer, teen interns spend four weeks at DOROT, a local community organization that works to help socially isolated seniors.
High School students volunteer with a diverse group of socially-conscious teens to connect with older adults and provide assistance. Applications are now open.
As part of the internship, teens will:
- Perform 104 hours of community service
- Teach older adults how to stay socially connected through technology
- Plan intergenerational trips to local museums
- Learn to create documentary films that showcase older adults
- Cook and dine with seniors
- Deliver meals and birthday cakes
- Participate in Intergenerational Theater
Interns benefit from the wisdom and compassion of older adults as they develop their understanding of who they are and their potential impact on the world. “I realized kids from my generation have the power to make a huge difference in someone’s life,” says Sabrina, a Summer Intern from 2015.
