No, things haven’t gotten worse since DeBlasio became Mayor. Sure.

      • UWS-er says:

I mean, they haven’t. I don’t like him and think he’s kinda inept, but things haven’t gotten worse. There were slashings under Bloomberg. And Giuliani (many more under Giuliani, actually, since crime was much higher then.) So I’ll take your comment as NOT sarcastic and say: good point. You are correct.

    2. RedRaleigh says:

Hey Michael – Maybe De Blasio was the slasher!?

      Yeah, that’s the ticket.

    3. danny says:

totally agree. DeBlasio has to go. i’m sorry – there is no other answer. I’d vote for ANY trump or any box of rocks top be our next mayor before voting for Deblasio again!!

    4. UWS Dept. of Comment says:

we all know it’s common knowledge that Mayor DeBlasio physically, himself, went to Duanne Reade and purchased razor blades and physically handed them to this slasher to carry out this crime.

it’s obvious, a lot of people are saying. Believe me. Bigly.

    5. Sarah says:

Holy cow, a lot of conclusions being jumped to based on no evidence at all. Stop disgracing yourselves.

At some point people are going to have to accept that violent crime is generally DOWN in NYC in the past few years. Even if it doesn’t feeeeel like it because you have to see a few more poor people on the streets.

    6. UWSHebrew says:

uh CCTV images? hello? let’s see who the criminal is please.

      • Erica says:

No need! It’s obviously DiBlasio! Or maybe Hillary! Or perhaps a homeless person who has been offered a home! Or an illegal alien! Or – wait, let me go check to see who the usual villains are.

    7. John says:

Seems there is a crime wave this year on the upper Westside. Have not seen this since the 80’s and 90’s the a-train will become a rolling crime scene once again I am sure

      • UWS-er says:

Crime’s not up. You haven’t seen this since the 80s or 90s because the WSR wasn’t reporting every crime in the 80s and 90s.

        • John says:

          UWS
No I get my news from several sources and in CB-7 crime is up year over year
Multiple muggings in CP and CPW, shootings, armed robberies (several banks) and other violent crimes

    8. Bee says:

Could someone please post an update–during the day, in the middle of a busy avenue, is really disturbing (that is no way meant to make less of attacks at night etc.)

    9. Ruth Callahan says:

I saw all the blood trail this morning . And there was a trail of blood from west 98 street all the way to Columbus Avenue and turned onto W. 94th St.

So maybe the person with the knife was hurt in the attack.
This neighborhood it’s usually people who know each other that try to kill each other .
It definitely was not made the mayor oh I would’ve seen him he’s so tall 😜

      • Duh says:

If you don’t think deblasio’s one term mayor policy’s had something to do with the lack of police presence….. you must be a trump supported. #notsmart

        • Jen says:

So much in one statement – 1. If you don’t think it is deblasio fault, you are not smart 2 you are automatically a trump supporter.
Shrewd person to be able to deduce all that. You should try for a president next term.

      • Bee says:

I saw a lot of blood on Columbus and 97th in the crosswalk and wondered if there was a connection…

    10. Bob Lamm says:

Other things for which Bill de Blasio was or is solely responsible: (1) the horrific bubonic plague epidemic in Europe in the mid 1300s; (2) Pearl Harbor; (3) the assassination of John F. Kennedy; (4) New York City’s financial crisis in the mid 1970s; (5) the New York Mets’ late season collapses in 2007 and 2008; and (6) every outrageous statement made by Rudy Giuliani on behalf of Donald Trump. All of this and more is solely the fault of Bill de Blasio. 🙂

    11. steve says:

BTW, crime is “lower” because the deblasio administration has reclassified certain “crimes” as no longer being crimes. you have to be a crack addict to not realize crime is on the rise.. And, feel free to urinate on the streets if you feel the urge. it is no longer a “crime”.

      • Mark says:

Oh give me a break and go complain to your therapist. Nobody cares about quality of life crimes anyway, stop tying up the local precincts with that nonsense. The cops don’t appreciate it and neither do we.

        • Steve says:

maybe you should try talking to a cop. you are clueless. pretty sad. quality of life crimes DO matter and they correlate strongly to major crimes. you sound as smart as our mayor.

    12. Fran says:

Please WSR, let’s see an update on this incident soon.
e.g., Was it a random attack or an altercation …? The streets are so crowded these days, can’t believe there were no witness reports. What about an updated police report?
When reading about crime, it’s so much more upsetting
and fear producing when follow ups are hard to come by.
      Thanks!

    13. Julie says:

No cops on the street anymore–ever.

      • John says:

I agree I rarely see a cop unless there is a major event. This will promote lawlessness on our streets. Really sad that left wingers hate cops and our laws. Won’t be able to deny it once we revert to the 80’s crime wise then everyone will be saying how did this happen we were so politically correct.

    14. Ground Control says:

I walked by right after this all happened on Columbus near Modell’s. In talking to a witness she said that this young man had been slashed down the side of his face around 93rd and Columbus by a small group of guys. He ran down Columbus until he collapsed at 98th and Columbus and was bleeding badly. He was around 18 years old. The police were there taking to witnesses. Would like to know more.

    15. JD says:

Does anybody have an update on this? Was it random or a fight between two people who knew each other? We live right there and this is incredibly alarming.
