Cops shut down a large section of Broadway on Monday night after a someone called in a suspicious report of a box. Streets were closed from 72nd to 69th, Jodi told us.
Buses were also rerouted, according to the Daily News.
The NYPD’s Bomb Squad responded to the corner of Broadway and W. 70th St. at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, after someone spotted the item in the center median, an NYPD spokeswoman said.
The MTA detoured its M104 buses as police investigated, transportation officials announced on Twitter Monday night.
The box turned out to be a lockbox attached to a bench, the News reported.
We always appreciate when neighbors call in reports of suspicious packages. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it’s important to be watching and telling authorities.
Thankfully it was a false alarm but glad someone thought to call it in.
I was on one of the rerouted M104s, which first just stopped in the middle of the road for a good fifteen minutes. Understand the need for caution, but communication could’ve been better.
