Two construction workers were injured in an accident at 21 West 86th Street Thursday morning, according to the Daily News.
“The floor had been removed from the first-floor apartment at 21 W. 86th St. near Columbus Ave. and so the workers were standing on a beam, police said.
They were working on a door frame when it fell on them, knocking them to the basement, police said. An I-beam then fell on them.”
One worker injured his leg, and the other had unspecified serious injuries, according to the News. The Buildings Department is investgating.
Sounds like the workers were exposed to dangerous site conditions. I see Contractors take short cuts all the time at the expense of the safety of others.
I see them too often erecting or taking down scaffolding without closing the sidewalk. That’s a huge no-no in OSHA’s book. Do yourself a favor and when you see this activity taking place cross the street. Don’t walk under the scaffolding.
Do you report the violations that you say you see?
I’ve called 311 before… nothing happens.
Wish them a speedy recovery.
