Does Pikachu live at the Dakota?
How do you get young people to care about historic landmarks on the Upper West Side?
Pokemon GO of course!
Landmarks West has put together a tour that combines history with the hit smartphone game. See details below:
Saturday, August 27th, beginning at 1:30 PM
(meeting location confirmed prior to tour)
From cornices and gargoyles to Charmander and Jigglypuff, get in-depth insights to the architectural and social history of iconic Upper West Side Landmarks and follow the Pokestop lures to catch Pokemon along the way!
This augmented-reality afternoon tour is geared towards families and anyone else curious about the “scavenger hunt” game app sweeping the nation…and our landmarks!
Key stops include many featured in the LANDMARK WEST! Walking Tour App for iPhones – download it today and continue the architectural journey 24/7.
*Tom Miller, aka The Daytonian in Manhattan updates his blog with six new buildings a week (every Tuesday is an UWS site!).  To-date he has over 2,000 entries covering the intricacies of  old New York, and unveiling what still remains.
**Amy Kraft is the cofounder of Monkey Bar Collective, a game design company and creator of the app Monkey Spot Scavenger Hunts, and an avid Pokemon Go player who can help you play and learn more about the game.

Do you do this walk without the Pokemon people, I’m interested in the educational value of this tour about the Upper West side architecture
A saying of Frank Lloyd Wright’s stuck in my mind from a video on him I saw in my mid-teens, I think it was. “Architecture is the future of humanity,” he said. In my mind I prayed for that to be true for others whether they fully realized the truth or not. The healing, reinforcing power of art is unavoidable with architecture because the latter is so imposing. As these young people grow and confront life (in a world where teen suicide is a major mortality issue) may their conviction nurture them and remain rock solid like mine has done.
Hi Everyone! For more information on LANDMARK WEST!’s robust offering of programs (for young people and adults alike) check out our website:

Mr Kennedy,
I just bookmarked the website and saw that LANDMARK WEST!s clebrating “all the Mom & Pops”.
Horray!
A small point but I gotta. “Lure young people”–I would have said “entice,” or “inspire.” Or even “get.” Just not “lure.” There’s a really specific use of “luring young people” that I think is best left as pejorative.
The rechnical language used was: “follow the Pokestop lures to catch Pokemon along the way!”
