Police have released the photo above and video below of the suspect wanted in connection with an attack that began on the 2 train on Saturday night. The police have also released the narrative, whose details differ somewhat from the narrative a spokesman told us on Monday.
It was reported to police that on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at approximately 1905 hours, aboard a moving northbound “2” train, the suspect yelled homophobic slurs at the 28 year-old male victim as the train arrived at the 110 Street station. Once at the station, the train’s doors opened and the suspect briefly walked off before he returned and punched the victim in the face. The victim followed the suspect off the train and onto the platform where the pair fought. The suspect stabbed the victim during the fight and ran up to the street area. The victim chased after the suspect and when he caught up with him on the street, the suspect stabbed him again. The suspect then fled eastbound on West 109 Street.
The individual is described as a male Hispanic, 6’1″, 155lbs; last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and he had on a dark green backpack.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
“Once at the station, the train’s doors opened and the suspect briefly walked off before he returned and punched the victim in the face.” – What a punk!
“The victim followed the suspect off the train and onto the platform where the pair fought.” – Go Dan!
Be strong! Makes me proud for my namesake.
When they complained about stop and frisk occurring more frequently to minorities, did they take into consideration that minorities commit by far the greater percentage of crimes in the city or did they leave that fact out of it?
I think the correlation between gender (male) and crime is even stronger. Perhaps all men should be subject to stop and frisk. I think domestic abuse is also vastly disproportionately male, so home inspections should be on tap too. White collar crime happens mostly at the hands of white guys; presumably their email and bank accounts should be routinely reviewed by the government.
So let’s say people of VJ’s ethnic persuasion committed far and away the most tax fraud. Then I suppose it would be just fine with VJ if people of that ethnic persuasion were virtually the only people audited. How about assigning every population group in the city a characteristic vice bsed upon statistical analyses and treating each member of that group as if they were suspects. Maybe make them where badges representing the group’s speciality if they were not identifiable by physical characteristics. Some folks might even get to wear multiple badges. Might be pretty flashy.
You are for the stopping and frisking of minorities?
I’m glad you feel that the rights of hundreds of thousands of innocent people — mostly African American and Hispanic men — can and should be violated so you can feel psychologically safer. Since, after all, it has been proven that racial profiling “stop and frisk” has nothing to do with fighting crime.
How has this been proven? Because the practice was ended under Mayor DeB and crime kept going down.
I can only surmise that you feel NYC government and the NYPD should be acting out on your personal irrational fears.
What trash…crime is worse now in large part to stopping stop, question and frisk. And it is a fact that mods minorities commit crimes (% wise).
Wow, I haven’t heard that word “mods” since the 60s. And here it is, used on WSR!
mod

Honestly, this neighborhood has gone to sh&$! So many awful things are happening that are not even being reported by the media. Im afraid to leave my house after 7:00 because of the vagrants lurking nearby. Saw a man walk into my lobby to roll a joint like its no big deal. So many other things i have seen and heard and i’m afraid.
A lot of fear mongering and racism displayed in the comments section lately. Crime has hardly changed but somehow seeing “undesireable” people causes affluent anxiety as if somehow any of these issues are new. Your quality of life is not the same as others. You are not entitled to harass and abuse the civil rights of poor people just to appease your affluent fears. This is a city of 8.5 million people, not every one of us are yuppies. Your attitude towards others is what is responsible for the deaths of Eric Garner, Patrick Dorismond, and countless others.
A man approached and followed my teenage son a couple of nights ago with a story that his wife had a breast infection and he needed baby formula. My son is soft-hearted and didn’t put him off strongly enough and he followed him all the way home. We saw him out the window and he was clearly a junkie. I agree that my stretch of Broadway feels less safe than it did a few years ago.
All the news reports originally said it was the 1 train at 110 in Morningside Heights. Thanks WSR for the clarity. This was the 2 at 110th St. in Central Harlem near the swath or projects. Lots of crime in that area and lots of gang activity there. I know families (African American) whose kids beg them to take them to the 116th St subway rather than the 110th because they don’t feel safe. Just sayin.
WSR your link is incorrect. I cannot get to the UWS school article.
Not sure what you’re referring to. This story is not about schools. WSR
“Can’t get there from here.”
New UWS Public School…. Not posted on this website

Can you please send a link to the article about why so many WSR Commentors image they are seeing potential crime, when they are actually seeing their minority neighbors.
