Check out a new bistro from a popular restaurateur and other local openings and closings.
The owners of popular Upper West Side Italian restaurant Cibo e Vino on 89th and Broadway, plan to take over the existing lease of Bistro 1018 on 110th and Amsterdam, and open a new restaurant called Marlow Bistro. One of the owners, Elena Kistovski, said at a recent liquor license hearing that they plan to have deliveries. She said that the décor and ambiance will mirror Cibo e Vino.
Ted Baker London has opened on the ground floor of the Time Warmer Center “offering patrons and fashionistas a taste of its world-renowned style and sophistication in menswear, womenswear, accessories, and other stylish pieces,” according to the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District.
A new Juice Press has opened up inside the Equinox at Columbus Circle, the BID also says.
A new Bloch dance and sports apparel store is opening at 62nd Street and Columbus Avenue. There was once a Bloch on 74th and Columbus. Thanks to Sarah Verena for the photo.
Subway sandwiches on Columbus between 84th and 85th has a very prominent for rent sign on the outside, signalling that it may not around much longer. Thanks to Mary McManus for the photo.

what is replacing Ouest?

Any news on what’s replacing the former Alec Sutton dry cleaners at 216 West 79th? They’re installing what looks like refrigerated food cases, but when I asked the workmen yesterday they did not know.
Is the Maille store closed? Walked by it yesterday and it wasn’t open and it seemed to have some signage in front indicating it had closed, but it was blocked by NYC barriers and I couldn’t read the sign.
It’s closed temporarily: https://www.westsiderag.com/2016/07/05/openings-closings-alexis-bittar-cedra-pharmacy-guyers-bella-luna-maison-pickle
I am thrilled that Maille, the brand new mustard and vinegar store is undergoing a renovation. My dominating thought when that store appeared on Columbus was “thank God finally we have a mustard and vinegar store.” And what’s better than a mustard and vinegar store? A NEW and IMPROVED one.
Gone are the days when stores go for 20, 30 years or more without an update. Mustard and vinegar stores are setting a new standard for keeping things fresh and updated. Kudos!!
They’re just trying to ketch-up with the competition.
There’s a Ketchup Boutique opening!
Where? When?
Will they have pumps?
Can I bring my empty bottle and recycle it?
You know, some people actually view the plethora of specialty stores as one of the unique and attractive things about New York. If there is not enough demand to keep it going, it will close, but if there is, then it would be filling a need, even if it is not one of your needs.
Does anyone know why Polished (on West 78th) closed? It was thriving and then shut down suddenly,
The new awning says Lagom Gourmet Deli.
Loved Bistro 1018: a true neighborhood bistro affordable, simple, delicious meals in a warm, modest, intimate and relaxed setting. Now it will be replaced with yet “restaurant”, aka –another wine bar. Or just another glorified and overpriced Olive Garden. Welcome to U̶p̶p̶e̶r̶ ̶W̶e̶s̶t̶ ̶S̶i̶d̶e̶ Lower Westchester!
I agree it’s a shame. The owners really abandoned the place a couple of years ago and have been trying to sell it ever since. Was a nice place before they let it go. I’ll miss Jackie the manager – she was great!
Is Bistro 1018 supposed to be closed? I walked by tonight and it looked open for business as usual. So I guess at some point it will be closing before the new place takes it over?
Correct.
I loved Bistro 1018 from the day it opened over ten years ago (I live nearby). It was wonderful to sit outside in the summer, and really good food and service when the brothers and mom ran it (they also were involved in the laundromat next door, also closed).
Now the Bistro is a shell of its former self, due to gutting of the building it’s in, rats in the garden across the street from it, and lots of competition in the nabe.
any news on the Food Emporium space, or the Jennifer convertible space across the street or the space where the bank used to be on 91st & Bway….what a waste
Do we really need a separate store that just sells mustard and vinegar?
Try Fairway or Citarella.
