An alleged drunk driver hit a parked car and flipped his Chevy Cruze on Sunday around 3:20 a.m. at West 83rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, according to a report in Gothamist. You can see the incident in the video below; it occurs at about the 1:50 mark.
“Suspect Washington Cordell, 24, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital after the incident. Cops say he “may have been cut off by a taxi, then struck several vehicles and overturned.” In the surveillance video, there’s no sign of him being cut off, but he does appear to be speeding in his 2016 Chevy Cruze.
Cordell—a resident of Troy, NY—was charged with a DWI and refusal to take a breathalyzer.”
There is no excuse for driving in an intoxicated state in a city full of mass transit. Get a cab, get a hotel room and sleep it off. What a jerk.
Why was this dude filming the street at 3 in the morning?

The video has been removed. Why not remove the entire post?
Thanks for letting us know. It’s still a news event, with or without the video. WSR
Don’t know why the video was taken down, but if you saw the damage the Chevy did instantly, on impact to the white car parked outside Peacefood Cafe: THAT is what a bike lane protects the neighborhood’s bicyclists from.
No cyclist can survive being the buffer between a line of parked cars and a driver (drunk or sober) careening into them!
Plenty of residents, businesses, and people who deliver for the businesses on Amsterdam asking for approval on DOT’s redesign and bike lane. It’s better for business and for life.
