The NYPD announced late Thursday night via Twitter that four men have been arrested for strong-arm robbery in the park.
Just in: 4 males arrested for strong armed robbery just before 8p in @CentralParkNYC. Great work by @NYPDCentralPark
— NYPD NEWS (@NYPDnews) December 11, 2015
Update: The men were released after questioning, as “officials say investigators could not establish probable cause.and released them,” according to ABC News.
We’re still confirming whether the men were arrested for both Monday night robberies.
Though I am not fond of self promotion, good job NYPD! Capturing suspected criminals is indeed part of the job.
Good work NYPD! Please show a picture of these lowlifes, I’m guessing they’re Tibetan or Swedish.
They were questioned and released. No charges were filed.
@UWSHebrew:
Troll Rating: A+
Humanity Rating: F
Welp. As a troll, you’re doing a fantastic job. Consistently commenting in every article, choosing a name that evokes a clear picture of who you mean to portray, and are on point with message. You accomplish being racist, and bait others into commenting back. Your choice of user name could even manage to provoke further baiting.
With that being said, as a troll or otherwise, you’re a terrible human being. Can we stop approving these messages?
Commenting in every article? Hardly. This is the third article I’ve commented on. Not a troll, but because I say things that are “hurtful” to your liberal ears, you call me that as well as a “terrible human being”. I’m just a UWS resident, like you. I’m also Jewish, like you probably are Debbie. You see, it was not a mitzvah to vote for Obama, even though in your warped mind it was. He has plunged this country into darkness on so many issues, including race relations (he set that back 50 years with his pal Al Sharpton visiting him in the WH dozens of times), and the security of this country (Libya/Syria/ISIS), and the world quite frankly. Holder, Clinton, Kerry, are all to blame, but the fish stinks from the head.
The bigger criminal that has visited Obama in the WH has been Netanyahu.
I’m guessing you’re racist or xenophobic. I’ll praise the NYPD when they arrest Daniel Pantaleo.
I am not a racist, just a realist. You far-left wing liberals are pro-anything except white, straight, Christians. As for Daniel Pantaleo, I watched the video and that was murder. He should be doing 20 years.
A word to the wise—-NO PARK IS SAFE AFTER DARK—use GOOD common sense…..
I am waiting on the news that All 4 men voted for our current Mayor and plan on filling a lawsuit for discrimination and police brutality
Ah yes. Obviously they should’ve shot ’em, right Mr Trump?
Right.
Finally. There is obviously a youth gang element on the uws that feels they can get away with this crap. Kudos to the cops for finally catching some of them. And I object to the concept that we should all fear the park after dusk. There are great running trails around the reservoir that folks who work until 6 or 7 should be able to enjoy. Perhaps rather than shy away from parks at night we should populate them more. Perhaps we should take back the night from common thieves instead of cowering in fear.
Criminals tend to prey on easy targets. They target UWS residents because the theory is the residents in this community won’t fight back. People need to be smart with their belongings but also learn how to fight back as well.
Arresting 4 of this group will not have the slightest effect on the psyche of this gang. Please, getting arrested is a badge of honor to these low life jerk-offs.
Most violent crime in CP occurs at night. It’s very easy to assault someone and disappear into the night. Runners with ear buds are especially vulnerable. By all means continue to run at night (I personally wouldn’t) but try to heighten your sense of awareness while doing so.
I wonder why we still feel compelled to state the gender of the arrested. Most violent crime is perpetrated by men and stating they are men promulgates this stereotype. Why not just say four arrests were made. We know they are people, as opposed to elephants, so we don’t need to say that, and identifying gender serves no purpose.
In case you’ve been to another planet, there are cases of females robbers.
Check the police blotter and see for yourself.
That’s why I said MOST instead of ALL. I have been on Earth but your comments seems to have come from Uranus.
Apparently NYPD didn’t do a good job as the arrests were voided. I suspect @NYPDnews won’t tweet that out.
Breaking news: all for men were arrested have now been cleared and released. But that didn’t stop many people here from assuming they arrested the right guys. Remember the Central Park jogger case? Donald Trump calld for of those guys to be executed. It turned out they were all innocent too. It seems like Donald Trump isn’t the only one who jumps to conclusions before they have the facts around here.
Giovani, the fact that they were released does not mean they’re innocent. The article states that the investigators were unable to establish probable cause, it did not state that the suspects were cleared of any wrong doing after being questioned. They could he picked up again and charged if detectives are able to establish probable cause.
Before you jump to conclusions it’s important to understand how the criminal justice process works, especially if you’re going to call out other people on this blog.
I understand the basics of due process Giovanni. You said that (at the time) the men were cleared, that was not the case. Cleared implies that after questioning they were no longer persons of interest. That didn’t happen they were released die to a lack of probable cause. Big difference, no?
Bottom line, initially the suspects were taken in, then released due to due process. They were then CLEARED of the crime via video evidence a few days later.
Your argument… Just because they were picked up by the cops, it does not mean they’re guilty, people should not jump to conclusions that they’re guilty.
My argument echoes yours, and I 100% agree that jumping to conclusions is not a good idea.
My point is simply just because a person of interest is released by the cops it does not mean they are innocent. Once they are cleared however, they are innocent. In this case they were cleared once the video came out, not when they were initially released.
You are incorrect, all four suspects were released and cleared of all charges when it was found they were nowhere near the scene of the crime. They had been swept up by a police crime team, but video evidence proved they were not even in the park during the crime. They were just rounded up “to protect holiday shoppers” according to the NY Daily News. I don’t expect them to get an apology from anyone who was ready to convict all the wrong people before any evidence against the was ever presented.
Maybe next time around try not jumping to any conclusions before all the facts are in. After all, there are still a few dangerous criminals out there who actually did commit these crimes, but arresting the wrong people does not help anyone.
Via the NY Daily News:
“The foursome first charged — a 20-year-old, a 17-year-old and two juveniles, ages 14 and 15 — were picked out by the victim during a canvass of the area, but were set free when video surveillance showed that they were no where near the park when the robbery took place, a high-ranking police source said.
The four suspects were quickly grabbed up by police sent to the area to protect holiday shoppers and to find a robbery crew responsible for several other hold-ups in the iconic park.”
You keep going in circles clause you were proven wrong. You won’t admit that you jumped to the wrong conclusion, and you won’t even admit that just because someone was arrested does not make them guilty. You obviously do not understand the concept of probable cause or due process, and you keep hiding behind that argument while the real perpetrators are still out there which is the real issue. The good news is that people who do understand the law are in charge of these things and that the people who were wrongly arrested were in fact cleared of all charges.
That was not the case when ypu and I first started this conversation and really has no hearing on our debate here. We have been discussing due process, ie probably cause.
Your point was that everyone on here jumped to conclusions that the 4 arrested were guilty while making a snide comment and a comparison to Trump.
I said was that just because these 4 men were released due to the investigators not being able to establish probable cause, it does not make them innocent and they could be arrested again at a later date. My entire premise was that you were also guilty of jumping to conclusions by assuming that because the police released them, that they were innocent. See below for the information we had on hand that was the basis for our debate.
NEW YORK (WABC) — Police had taken 4 young men into custody in connection with a robbery in Central Park on Thursday evening, but officials say investigators could not establish probable cause.and released them
Obviously you are the one who does not understand the law; even if there had been probable cause and an arrest, these suspects would have all still been considered innocent until proven guilty. An arrest does not imply guilt. If you had any formal training in the law, or had even sat on a jury, or been called for jury duty, you would know this. The fact is the police have a new suspect they are looking for, and all charges were dropped on the previous suspects.
Yet whether they were the actual perpetrators or not does not seem to matter to way too many readers on this blog. They just want someone arrested, and are far too eager and ready to assume anyone who gets picked up is guilty before they even get their day in court. It’s called due process, and it’s why the Central Park jogger case was such a travesty of justice that cost this city millions of dollars in settlements, not to mention a loss of trust in the system. If you care about our justice system then the principle of due process should be important to you, if not then I suppose any perp will do.
Glad the NYPD caught these thugs. I hope that these thugs go away for a long time. Additionally, they should be permanently ineligible for any taxpayer-funded welfare benefits or subsidized housing that they might be receiving.
They didn’t catch the right people at all, did you read the news and comments above? We already know they didn’t catch the right people, but everyone jumped to the conclusion that they did. They are still looking for the suspects.
