A Kia Optima parked on 91st street took the brunt of the damage after a massive tree cracked and fell on 91st street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues Sunday. An FDNY spokesman told us no one was reported injured.
Mercedes Verdejo took the photos around 5:15 p.m., and said firefigters were on the scene to take care of the damage. Neighbors said that the block had been partially blocked off for several days, because the tree had started leaning ominously toward the street.
area was blocked off for SEVERAL DAYS and not one city agency took care of this..Does any “CITY OFFICIAL” have an explanation for this.
Yes, I am a gov worker so I pledge to do nothing. Leave me alone now ’cause I have to go picket for an earlier retirement and higher pension from the taxpayers.
wtf?!
I think that there is a very specific reason for what you interpret as lack of action! It has to do with ownership! The tree is NOT officially on city property. If the tree was at the curb, the Parks Dept. would have claimed responsibility and removed it promptly. If it’s on public housing or on private property, the “ownership” is not Parks Department. It’s easy to attribute everything to responsibility of the city, but it doesn’t work that way. Find out who owns the property and go from there. My experience with trees at the curb has shown the Parks Dept. response time is immediate!
The tree is rooted on NYCHA property. During Sandy the FDNY cut fallen trees to clear the streets.
So who then taped the area off? Local residents? How urgent was the situation? Were there more pressing problems elsewhere?
These, and many other questions, don’t keep me awake at night… .
perhaps the residents were not politically connected?
anyone else got an explanation?
Yeah. They think it happened in the ghetto.
Sean please explain yourself… What does your comment mean? ghetto equals no attention?.. Nice neighborhood means good quality attention? In the end we’re all humans.. It doesn’t matter what kind of neighborhood this should be cleared ASAP!!
You must be new here. In NYC, money means action.
I walked by right before it fell and heard it break. It was very loud! I am glad no one got hurt!
Zen koan:
If a tree falls in the NYCHA projects, and no one hears it…
Raw sewage will be next. It’s a constant.
