An assistant principal at PS 87 sent a notice to parents on Tuesday warning them that a man had attempted to lure two children into his black SUV promising them candy.
“It has been reported to us that a man in a black suv was in front of our school this morning. Â He got out of his car and approached two children telling them he had candy and asking if they wanted to come into this car. Â The children did not respond to the man.”
She added: “There will be an increased police presence the last few days of school.”
One of the reasons why it would have been better to spend 200k on the security cameras close to schools and playgrounds instead of using it for count-down clock at select bus lines.
A description would really go a long way for the residents. Now I am going to be eyeing every Black SUV I see.
I Agree with LK. There needs to be crossing guards at both avenues, security cameras all around the school and an increased police presence!!! So scary!
With the 1400 new police officers authorized by the City today, this situation will be addressed.
Plenty of new officers will undoubtedly be assigned to the area surrounding the school.
Where they will give a parking ticket to the black SUV for parking inches too close to a fire hydrant.
So are the police going to provide additional coverage to the I.S. 44 building, home to PS 334 and PS 452, literally right across the street from P.S. 87?
What parent in right mind has not already prepared children properly for approach by either strangers or, even, known adults? What parent does not closely supervise entrance/departure from school? Parents! Wake up! Few police would observe such an event actually happening. That would require child approaching policeman to report – that is unlikely.
