Get off your butt this weekend, and learn about your neighborhood or another part of New York City with Jane’s Walks, a series of more than 200 guided walks in several neighborhoods in the city. The weather is expected to be delightful, and all the tours are free, with no reservation required. The event honors Jane Jacobs, the city’s fiercest neighborhood advocate.
On the Upper West Side, there are walks covering the urban renewal programs, Amsterdam Avenue: Grit, Greed and Glamour, along with several others.
The walks are at various times on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See the full list here, and put on some comfortable shoes.
This is very cool. Jane Jacobs’s work is still among the best and most important thinking about human interaction in urban spaces. Thanks for the heads up.
A truly wonderful woman who literally saved the City.
It is wonderful to walk in her footsteps.
