Time Out New York has put together a list of the 50 best bartenders in the city, and Drew Zechman at Burke & Wills made the cut — he was the only Upper West Side bartender on the list. Bartenders had to nominate themselves and then get votes from readers.
Drew, who grew up in the Finger Lakes and has lived in New York for 17 years, worked at Jacob’s Pickles for a year before moving over to Burke & Wills. He sent over a cocktail recipe for our readers, and we’ve shared it below.
- 2 dashes Peach Bitters
- 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
- 3/4 oz Agave
- 2 oz Bourbon
Shake/ Strain. Serve on the Rocks with a lemon twist.
You can vote for Drew or one of the 49 others to be crowned the drinks king of NYC. Voting ends March 24.

Lincoln has some great bartenders. They really know how to make a Sidecar.
Ahhh please!!!! They’re Bartenders! Period! I know and have known a lot of them who would be offended by such a PC term as mixologist!
Yep, agreed. Most bartenders blanch at the term “mixologist” and actually prefer bartender instead
excuse me!!!there are not called bartenders any longer, please refer to them as MIXOLOGISTS.

Scott Chandley at Gabriel’s is the best!!! He can handle a crowd with ease, and makes everyone feel welcome and right at home. He is NY’s version of Sam Malone.

Ken Hartman from Blondies on 79th is fantastic! Awesome person & bartender! 🙂
Nice for Burke and Wills, it is a great spot. The bartenders at Caffe Storico are good, too.
