Several readers have asked us for ideas on volunteering over the holidays and we’ve come up with a list that we’d like to expand. So read up and then let us know of other ways to help!
The West Side Campaign Against Hunger is doing its 1000-turkey challenge again this year:
“We are spearheading an effort to raise more than 1,000 turkeys and other food for low-income New Yorkers for Thanksgiving. This is the 5th year of the Challenge, and it is a partnership that includes many religious institutions, schools and other neighborhood institutions from the Upper West Side. Here is a link to flyer with all the details and the ways that people can help. Of particular note, we will be collecting and distributing Turkeys next Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 8pm and Wednesday from 9am to noon.”
Goddard Riverside needs volunteers and food for its holiday dinners. More here. Become a tutor here. For more opportunities, contact Goddard Riverside. Email: Volunteers@goddard.org Phone: 212.873.4448.

Jason Haber, a real estate agent for Warburg Realty, is handing out turkeys on Tuesday: “FYI, on Tuesday afternoon and evening I’ll be giving away FREE turkeys to families in need. I’ve teamed up with the head start program at Goddard Riverside and they are sending families over here to pickup the turkeys. Our delivery is coming around 1pm and we’ll be giving them out from 1 to 7pm. Should be fun and a nice way to start the holiday season.”
