A woman was hit by a red Dodge minivan at the intersection of Amsterdam Avenue and 91st street on Thursday morning around 9:20 a.m.
The woman had just stepped into the crosswalk to cross Amsterdam when she was hit by the westbound Dodge, an FDNY official told DNAinfo.
“A man was holding her shins with a cloth, there was blood on it,” said Vincent Edwards, 49, who works at a funeral home near the intersection.
Both the pedestrian and driver were taken to the hospital, although their conditions were not clear. NYPD did not respond to a request for more information.
Yet another reason to establish congestion pricing: require tolls of drivers of private vehicles below a certain street. I’d suggest 96th or 110th, not 86th as suggested by Bloomberg. Too many seniors living between 86th and 110th on both sides of the island to not get protection.
YES, YES, YES !!!
And some will recall that the congestion pricing proposal was shot-down by the NY State Assembly, under the leadership of the ethically-challenged State Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver, in the pocket of the slob-burbia lobby.
HERE’S AN IDEA:
people in the outer boroughs should still be able to drive into Manhattan (if they’re brave {nuts?} enough to do so) as they are STILL NEW YORKERS!
BUT, if Mr. or Ms. Slob-burbanite (especially YOU, New Jersey plates!) want to drive in and then clog all the streets around both the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels at 5:00 p.m. as they ‘escape’ to their ‘pastoral arcadias’ (read “tacky subdivisions and ugly strip malls), RE-NEW THE COMMUTER TAX AND MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF MAKING A MESS OF MANHATTAN TRAFFIC!!
Are ya’ listening, Ms. Rosenthal, Madame Brewer, and Hizzoner BdB?
Congestion Pricing is b*llshit. They do it in London and there is no reduction of traffic at all due to ‘congestion pricing’-Instead it just makes the drivers wealthier. That is, London is full of ‘rich twits’ driving in instead of commuters (priced out). Okay, it makes the city richer (if theres no corruption in the program), but our seniors might get hit more often by the wealthier drivers’ chauffeurs!
Re: “That is, London is full of ‘rich twits’ driving in instead of commuters (priced out).”
Oh, so the commuters are staying home instead of going to work VIA MASS TRANSIT (which is one of the reasons for congestion pricing) ??
Really?? On what facts do you base your assertion? Love to see the data!
As far as “rich twits” driving in…again, show us the data! And why does being wealthy make them objectionable??
I’m a local resident and a driver and I’ve observed two things: 1) most drivers will do ANYTHING to make a light and 2)tons of pedestrians jay walk and do not pay attention when crossing the street, including crossing against the light, assuming (I presume) that drivers can always see them).
I don’t think congestion pricing will help but I do think giving tickets like crazy to both pedestrians and drivers who jaywalk or try to make a light and consequently drive against a light will, ultimately help.
I am very sorry I missed this article earlier, as I live on that block and drive every day and based on the description I am fairly certain I know what happened here. THERE IS A BIG CON-ED cone/thing in the middle of 91st st (yes right in the middle of the cross walk where a car would be driving)!!! I have been thinking to myself for over a week now “This is going to cause an accident” its one thing if its temporary but it has been there for a long time. I imagine the driver didn’t see it in time and prob swerved. Wow…shame on the city if this is what caused that accident. Does anyone know how we can get rid of this thing?
