K&S Market, a Korean deli that’s been around for almost three decades, is set to close on Sunday, opening up a large vacant space on the corner of 92nd and Broadway. We had initially reported their plans to close in January, but the store apparently got a temporary reprieve.
Photos by Kenneth. Thanks to Kenneth and Linda Rosenthal for the tips.
I remember when they moved in. I and a lot of people were pissed that Korean Delis were taking over and now we are going to miss them. Oh well, it is what it is. Took a while to appreciate them. Now appreciate them even more!
Good riddance
The former Northfork/Capital One space on the corner of 91st and Broadway has been vacant for a few years now and is likely in better condition than the deli. If that building can’t find a tenant, how long will this place be vacant?
Those guys were really good to me during the blackout. That’s too bad
Local Mom and Pop stores will continue to close down with sites like Fresh Direct and Amazon. Why go out when you can sit on your couch and get it the next day. It’s so much more convenient most of the time. On the other hand when the SRO buildings were allowed to rent to tourists these very same stores were still in business. What does the homeless shelters bring to our community besides grief. I say bring back the tourists and don’t look for tzuris!
so now Mom & Pop stores on the UWS are closing because of the homeless shelters on W. 95th? what will be blamed on them next? traffic fatalities?
thank you BS politician – run for office! 🙂
Every action has a reaction…Sun Szu.
Be wary of the law of unintended consequences.
However, the renting by the City as a shelter was told to Gale and Linda Rosenthal before they pushed the law outlawing transient affordable tourist hotels.
If they think SROS are so important, they should build themselves as individuals or get the City to do so.
more and more regulations just make things worse and worse. For example, the City will jail a landlord for not bringing an SRO up to code and make repairs, but also keeps the rents so low via regulations (think about a 1% increase on a rent CONTROLLED unit (not stabilized) of $300 a month – $3 bucks) that the buildings loss money.. so this is the result.
For the last year or so, there was a bald white dude with a sweatband that hung around their storefront. Always creeped me out. Wondered if they were being shaken down or something.
I know who you mean, that guy is always there smoking like a chimney. He looks like he’s a tweaker.
Heh, I walked by yesterday and even though the deli is now vacant, tweaker sweatband dude was still there, knees knocking together.
I will miss them. There are few to none f those late night fruit and vegetable stores left between 896th and 96th on Broadway.
One of the workers there..a terrific guy who has been there for years…told me that the restaurant/pizza place next door is taking the space.
I hope that’s still true given competition from the new pizza place on the southeast corner (in the former Crumbs space)… I prefer Pronto Pizza and would rather see them succeed, and also also keep that corner from becoming vacant.
