The temperature is supposed to be in the 80’s this weekend, and there are several outdoor events around the Upper West Side (as well as some indoor ones).
On Saturday starting at 3, PS 199 at 70th and West End Avenue will hold a special celebration of the Middle East with food, music and art of the Middle East.
On Saturday starting at 2:30 and lasting until 10 p.m., a “Globesonic” dance party will occur at 70th street and pier I. “Join hundreds of revelers of all ages at the 10th year celebration of our GlobeSonic on the Hudson open-air summer dance party with the GlobeSonic Sound System DJs and drummers.”
Also on Saturday, the Emerald Inn on 72nd street near West End Avenue celebrates its 71st anniversary. So stop by and raise a glass to one of the oldest continually operating Upper West Side businesses there is.
On Saturday at 7, the RCTA summer concert series kicks off with a concert by jazz bassist Ron McClure and friends on the lawn near the tennis courts at 97th street and Riverside Park. “Bring your picnic basket and blanket and join us. Stick around afterward and watch the fireflies rise up out of the lawn and the stars speckle the sky. In the event of inclement weather, call the hotline, 212-978-0277, to see whether a concert has been postponed.”
On Sunday, the annual Orchid and Music Festival hits Broadway from 73rd to 86th streets, with 1,000 orchids set to go on sale, and lots of food and music.
