Three people were injured in a large fire at a five-story building on West End Avenue on Monday night.
Firefighters got the call about a blaze at 471 West End Avenue at 7:14 p.m. and arrived by 7:18, FDNY tells us. The fire tore through the fourth and fifth floors and the flames briefly reached the roof. A second alarm at 7:28 brought even more firefighters — eventually more than 100 firefighters responded. The firre was under control at 8:39.
A firefighter and two civilians were transported to Weill-Cornell hospital. One of the civilians had serious injuries, while injuries to the other two victims were considered minor.
The cause is still under investigation.
Hats off to the FDNY, once again. They “got the call…at 7:14 p.m. and arrived by 7:18.” They work like things are a matter of life and death. These guys rock.
It’s always helpful to include a cross street so that readers have a better idea of where exactly an event occurred.
I agree with comment #2, but the fact is easily ascertained — btwn 84th and 83d,
Actually, the building in question was between 82nd and 83rd on West End. I was in the crowd on the NE corner of WEA and 83rd, watching the NYFD work.
The two small buildings in the middle of the block between 83rd and 84th were unaffected.
