On Saturday at about 12:30 a.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in front of 2540 Broadway at 95th street, but they didn’t find anyone injured at the scene and officers did not arrest anyone, NYPD told us. A search for victims at local hospitals apparently turned up no victims.
Also on Saturday, we heard from a local that she was robbed while shopping at the Goodwill store on 79th street off of Broadway. “Some lowlife hit a new and decidedly low blow purloining my pocket book at the store yesterday while riveted on untangling costume jewelry in a wicker book case. I searched frantically for the jettisoned tote which housed my ATM card, wallet, keys, cosmetics, and sentimental items. Consider this a  grim caveat emptor while you try to make someone’s holiday brighter — be vigilant, or your own bag may be considerably lighter. Beware of bargain basement bilking during this hectic retail season.”

Thanks for the tip. Sad and upsetting. But surely very unusual. I have shopped at this Goodwill many, many times, and have never had a problem. I do keep valuables in an inaccessible section of my backpack.
