We just received an update about a forum tonight on gun violence. Mark Barden, the father of one of the children who was slain in Newtown Conn., will be at Stephen Wise synagogue tonight for a forum on gun violence with Rep. Jerry Nadler. Details below:
Congressman Jerrold Nadler will give insight into the current legislative battle to prevent gun violence and discuss specifically what New Yorkers can do to impact the current debate at Stephen Wise Free Synagogue, 30 West 68th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus avenue), on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. He will discuss what can be done to help ensure the safety of the city and New York City schools. Newly added to the program: Mark Barden who lost his son Daniel in the December 14, Newtown, CT massacre will also speak. Two weeks ago, Mark introduced President Obama at the White House press conference following the shameful U.S. Senate rejection of expanded criminal background checks to prevent gun violence. A question and answer period with the Congressman will follow the address.

Hi – I missed this event but am very interested in helping — does anyone know what Mark Barden and Congressman Nadler said we could do to get involved?
I am on the Social Action Committee of Stephen Wise Free Synagogue. You can watch speeches by Congressman Nadler and Mark Barden, with an introduction by Rabbi Ammi Hirsch, on the SWFS website. To quickly sum up – visit the Sandy Hook Promise website & make the Sandy Hook Promise, to fight the power of the NRA – donate to orgs that promote gun safety like Sandy Hook Promise, Brady Campaign, Demand Action, etc and keep the pressure on our US Senators and Representatives by calling, emailing,Facebooking, Tweeting, etc to ensure the issue remains a priority. Encourage friends who don’t live in NY state, to do the same.
