An Evening with Paquito D’Rivera

Juilliard Jazz welcomes Grammy Award-winning jazz clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera—a Cuban artist hailed for his interpretations of Latin Jazz and compositions of traditional Cuban music. This program features original works and works arranged by Mr. D’Rivera, performing with the Juilliard Jazz Ensembles.

The Juilliard Dance Division presents significant repertory works by acclaimed choreographers, beginning with Four Brubeck Pieces (1984)—New York choreographer Murray Louis’ lively personification of the jazz stylings of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond performed live by Juilliard musicians. Sunset (1983) by Juilliard alum Paul Taylor—an emotional and poetic glimpse into the interactions among soldiers and their sweethearts—precedes the finale of the eclectic and energetic One Flat Thing, reproduced (2000) by New York native and Germany-based choreographer William Forsythe. Music will be performed live by the Juilliard Orchestra, conducted by George Stelluto.

Emmanuel Villaume Conducts the Juilliard Orchestra
Thursday, April 4 at 8:00 PM
Internationally recognized conductor Emmanuel Villaume returns to the Juilliard to lead the Juilliard Orchestra in a program featuring Ravel’s beloved Mother Goose Suite, Tomasi’s virtuosic Trumpet Concerto performed by Juilliard trumpeter Kevin Quill, and Stravinsky’s celebrated Firebird Suite (1919).
