Some criminals use Mustangs as getaway cars. Others prefer SUV’s. But two Upper West Side thieves attempted a daring escape this week on the M7 bus, according to police.
They didn’t get far.
Joseph Melendez and Kenneth Wimberley walked into clothing store Theory on 69th Street and Columbus on Wednesday. While Wimberley distracted an employee, Melendez swiped six pair of pants and a bag worth more than $3,000 total, police told the New York Post and New York Press.
They ran out with the stolen goods in hand, dashed over to Amsterdam Avenue and jumped onto a Northbound M7, which creaked its way slowly up the avenue.
A Theory employee called police, and they stopped the bus at Broadway and 70th Street. Yup, they made it one whole block. The two men were in the back with their loot; they were charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.
